Reykjanesviti stands on a hill above the southwestern tip of the peninsula. Iceland’s first lighthouse was lit nearby in 1878, on the sea cliff Valahnúkur, and today’s lighthouse took its place in the early 1900s.
A short walk from the lighthouse brings you to Valahnúkur and the boulder beach below it, where the Atlantic breaks against the cliffs. On a clear day you can see Eldey, a rock island offshore that is home to a large colony of gannets. Keep well back from the edge, as the waves here are strong. From the hotel it is about 30 minutes by car.
