Gunnuhver is a geothermal area of boiling mud pools and steam vents near the southwestern tip of Reykjanes. Clouds of steam rise from the ground, and a boardwalk and viewing platforms take you close to the hot springs.
It is named after Gunna, a ghost from an old Icelandic folk tale who was said to have been lured into the spring. Stay on the paths: the ground around the vents is hot and can give way. From the hotel it is about 30 minutes by car.
